LED's have many advantages including long life provided they are properly thermally managed. Some manufacturers state in excess of 50,000 hours of operation before they loose 50% of their light output. They are also rugged and produce cold monochromatic light.

LED’s produce little or no Infra-red and uses considerably less energy than traditional methods.
